About 114 species of mammals are found in the park with Etosha’s elephants reputed to be the tallest in the world. Its floodlit waterholes attract a variety of game species ranging from small antelopes to big game like the elephant, lion, giraffe, rhino, etc, giving the rare opportunity to see some shy and nocturnal wildlife. Waterberg Plateau Park, established in the 1970s as a sanctuary for the rare and endangered game species of the Caprivi forms a stark contrast with Etosha. Today it is a home to White and Black Rhino, Cape buffalo, Roan and Sable antelope, Tsessebe, etc, which have benefited from the conservation programme. The natural beauty of this park can be explored on foot of vehicle on a guided game viewing tour. Sossusvlei, in the southern side of the country is undoubtedly the second greatest attraction after Etosha found in the Namib-Naukluft Park. The Namib Desert, one of the driest and oldest places on earth is home to the most famous and magnificent red sand dunes known to be the highest in the world at about 350m. The historical town of Luderitz, the first German settlement in Namibia and the Fish River Canyon makes the southern side an important destination not to be missed. The second largest in Africa, the Fish River Canyon, a natural gorge 161 km long, 27 km at its widest point and about 550m deep is formed from Namibia’s longest river. For the adventure enthusiasts, young and energetic, Swakopmund is the best destination to wet your appetite. This is Namibia’s most popular coastal resort where adventure activities such as skydiving, sand boarding, quad-biking, ballooning, etc, are all undertaken in the sand dunes
